Announcing our newest program the
I would like to introduce you to the newest program available through Resource Conservation Districts (RCDs) in San Luis Obispo County – the Livestock and Land Program.
The goal of the Livestock and Land Program is to raise community awareness, knowledge and support about management practices necessary to meet the needs ofhappy owners, healthy livestock and thriving watersheds. Through the Livestock and Land Program, RCDs will actively work with livestock owners on implementation of “Best Management Practices”, or “BMPs”, such as the following:
- Managing Weeds
- Composting Manure
- Reducing Erosion, Mud & Dust
- Selecting Appropriate Plants
- Keeping your Pastures Green
The Livestock and Land Program has been tremendously successful in neighboring counties to the north, and is now launching this pilot program in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties. Over the coming summer, we will be in touch with you about dates and locations of upcoming on-site workshops at local livestock facilities, providing training from both peers and professionals on how to successfully implement BMPs for your livestock. As a member of the livestock community, you are essential to the success of this program!
