Toro Creek

A scenic view featuring rolling green hills, trees, a coastline, and a rocky outcrop under a clear blue sky.

In partnership with Caltrans, San Luis Obispo County Parks, the Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo, and the Cayucos Sanitary District, we are excited to launch a new 10-year restoration project along Toro Creek, located between Morro Bay and Cayucos. This project will focus on invasive species removal, targeting cape ivy (Delairea odorata) and other non-native plants that threaten native habitat. To help manage invasive weed pressure, we’ll be welcoming a hard-working herd of goats to the site for targeted grazing. Over 2,000 native plants will also be installed to enhance biodiversity, improve habitat quality, and support long-term ecosystem resilience.

The site will be managed and monitored by the USLTRCD through 2036 as part of mitigation requirements associated with the Piedras Blancas Highway 1 Realignment project. Our team is thrilled to begin work on this beautiful and ecologically important site. We extend our sincere thanks to our partners and tribal representatives for their collaboration and dedication in bringing this project to life.
