Oswaldo Martinez
Oswaldo graduated from the University of California, Irvine in 2017 with a B.S. in Earth System Science. During his time there, he leveraged his connections with peers and faculty to travel abroad to such places as Guatemala, Peru, and Australia - each country filled him with rich purpose, stories and a sense of community. So powerful were these experiences that upon graduating, he joined the Peace Corps to serve as an Environmental Educator for primary schools in Nicaragua. After 10 months of service, escalating civil tensions in the country prompted Peace Corps staff to evacuate all volunteers to the States. Recently, Oswaldo was a CivicSpark Fellow working under the mentorship of Eastern Municipal Water District's Public and Governmental Affairs Department. This year, he hopes to reinforce his skills in outreach and teaching, and develop a technical skillset assisting with natural resource projects. He is very excited to join the Watershed Stewards Program under the mentorship of US-LTRCD.
